Competence field 1: Competence in one or more scientific disciplines
- To know and integrate the basic keywords and principles of social and economic geography, physical geography, landscape science, geomatics and their equivalents in different languages.
- To explain the history, developments, theories and the positioning of geography and geomatics as a discipline within the broader field of human and natural sciences.
- To know basic concepts and methods of supporting and related human and natural sciences important for the discipline geography and geomatics.
- To be able to evaluate the usefulness and quality of the available information of geographic research, hereby taking into account the error analysis and uncertainty.
- To conduct an international literature study, using different languages which are important for the discipline geography and geomatics.
- To have a notion of methods and techniques in geography and geomatics, including terrain and distance observations.
- To understand experimental-scientific research methods in geography and geomatics.
- To collect basic information for the analysis of a scientific research question in geography and geomatics.
- To apply scientific methods and techniques in geography and geomatics.
- To know and select research models stemming from the discipline in relation to a geographical research question.
- To find and be able to argue creative solutions for spatial questions.
- To position a scientific research question in an (inter)national context on the basis of the study of scientific literature in geography and geomatics.
- To critically reflect and adjust the own thinking, learning, deciding and acting.
- To have a research competence and interest for topics in geography and geomatics.
- Spatial thinking, zooming in and out in the four-dimensional space in geography and geomatics.
- To have an open mind for new ideas and a competence for lifelong learning.
- To report research results in a scientific way to colleagues in geography and geomatics.
