- Apply advanced knowledge about the functioning and dysfunctioning of the human body.
- Integrate specialised knowledge in biomedical sciences as a basis for an experimental scientific approach to complex, multidisciplinary medical problems.
- Apply insights of biomedical research to support prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
- Autonomously acquire and integrate information from scientific literature to assess a complex or multidisciplinary medical problem and formulate a research question
- Independently compile and execute a logically structured and feasible research plan using appropriate methodology, taking into account technical and ethical aspects
- Independently process and interpret research outcomes obtained from empirical research and document this in a scientific report in English
- Adhere to the code of conduct of scientific integrity during all phases of research
- Apply knowledge about procedures, (inter)national regulations and validation systems adhering to Good Laboratory Practice, considering commercial implications connected to intellectual property rights
- On the basis of a broad and critical scientific vision, continually correct, improve and renew one’s own professional thinking and conduct
- Participate in multidisciplinary fundamental, pre-clinical or translational research teams and take responsibility for achieving results
- Act as facilitator between research teams (medical and paramedical) and exchange biomedical knowledge and insights
- Independently make a critical analysis of and formulate an informed view on the societal implications and ethical limitations of biomedical research
- Communicate in a critical and systematic manner on scientific research to an international scientific audience as well as to a broader public
