The admission requirements vary. Depending on your prior education, you are either able to enrol directly, or there are additional requirements.

Unique Selling Points
- Future proof program: the Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering is a two-year degree programme intended to prepare students for future technical leadership in industry. The programme offers in-depth training in all aspects of electromechanical engineering and its economic and social implications based on a profound scientific basis.
- Job security: our Electromechanical Engineering graduates find employment in all branches of industry. Both in government agencies and private companies, their field of activity is broad and varied: electrical energy production and distribution, electrical and mechanical equipment manufacturing, metal industry, building construction, transport and maritime industry, consultancy, banking and insurance.
- Broad common ground; choose your accent: all Electromechanical Engineering students receive a broad common-ground training. In the Master’s degree, our students can choose one of five main subjects. The main subject of Maritime Engineering is unique in Flanders.
- State-of-the-art labs are available for the staff and these are strongly integrated into lab sessions for the students. This strengthens the link with scientific-academic research and improves science-oriented skills.
- Comprehensive logistic support for the students: there are various committees with representatives of students and scientific staff. In addition, the students of Electromechanical Engineering have established their own student organisation (PKarus). Company visits, information sessions and social activities intensify and improve the internal and external communication.
Strengths
- High-level education: our graduates will have acquired an attitude of scientific synthesis, analytical reasoning as well as scientific and technical independency. Training in research skills provides mastery in developing, implementing and monitoring technical and scientific innovations.
- Motivated team of teachers: our programme boasts a team of lecturers and other (teaching) staff who combine their research expertise with teaching skills, thus ensuring high-quality classes. All lecturers are active on the international stage and keep a link with industrial practice.
- Project-based learning: projects are embedded throughout the entire curriculum, aimed at strengthening our students’ practice-oriented skills required by industry.
- Student satisfaction: the official student surveys show high student satisfaction, with regard to quality, organization, consistency as well as programme content.
- Work placement programme: our Master’s curriculum contains opportunities for national and international work placements in companies. Both students and industry highly appreciate this experience.
Challenges
- Sustainability: e incorporate aspects of sustainable engineering in various course units, but the students do not experience this as such. We are currently working on introducing a sustainability speciality and sustainability projects.
- Internationalisation: lthough we offer an English-taught Master’s programme, we scarcely attract international students with strong profiles. On the other hand, only a handful of our own students complete part of their programme abroad.
- Diversity: our programme would benefit from a more diverse student intake. To that purpose, we actively contribute to the implementation of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture’s diversity action plan.
This study programme is accredited by the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlands and Flanders (Dutch: NVAO). Accreditation was extended following the positive outcome of the institutional review in 2022. Programme quality was validated by a quality review, i.e. a screening of the Education Monitor by the Education Quality Board. The Quality Assurance Resolution (in Dutch) can be found here.
