- Critically and multidisciplinary map, understand and interpret the quality of and interactions within natural and industrial ecosystems using state-of-the-art and advanced chemical-physical and (micro)biological measurement techniques, ecological risk assessment, and models
- Assess and improve the efficiency and environmental sustainability of processes and technologies in terms of (re)use of natural resources, life cycle analysis and clean technology
- Have in-depth knowledge and insight with regard to the principles and quantitative calculation of physical, chemical and biotechnological processes for the recovery and purification of gaseous, liquid and solid by-products and their (micro)pollutants; as well as with regard to the design, control, practical implementation and integration of environmental installations
- Have knowledge of the Flemish and international environmental legislative framework and of the economic-social preconditions regarding local and global environmental challenges and environmental care
- Provided that the "Minor environmental coordination" is followed, the master can also lead to the recognition of "Environmental coordinator type A"
- Identify and analyze problems in environmental technology and formulate clear research questions with a view to achieving effective and potentially applicable solutions
- Consult and critically interpret professional literature according to scientific standards
- Select, adapt or, if necessary, develop the appropriate analysis methods and process techniques

The programme Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering : Environmental Technology - minor Environmental Coordination organised by Ghent University is recognised as complementary training for environmental coordinators of the first level (A) ( Ministerial Decree of September 25, 2014 (approval number AMV/ERK /OPL_MC /UGent/2014/1)) .
This means that if the student has completed the 4 course units of the minor environmental coordination (as mentioned in section 4.3. of the Diploma Supplement ), the diploma is in accordance with the general and special conditions of approval mentioned in the order of the Flemish Government of November 19, 2010 establishing the Flemish regulations on recognitions relating to the environment (VLAREL) .
