Final Competences of the Study Programme
Role 1: Expert in oral health care
- M1 Apply advanced knowledge of the dental field in real clinical situations.
- M2 Independent clinical reasoning for a differential, provisional or definitive diagnosis.
- M3 Independently compile an integrated treatment plan and treatment process for complex dental problems, taking into account the patient’s care requirements and needs, and with attention to alternatives.
- M4 Gauge the urgency in emergency consultations and apply the necessary treatment where appropriate.
- M5 Gauge multidisciplinary oral health care problems.
- M6 Correctly administer complex dental treatments.
M7 Promote oral health with individual patients, families and societal groups.
Role 2: Scientist.
- M8 Independently execute and critically interpret a study of the literature.
- M9 Formulate new research questions in the dentistry domain and work out a research protocol.
- M10 Execute and correct scientific research within the dentistry domain in an ethically and legally responsible manner.
- M11 Analyse, interpret and report on one’s own research outcomes in a balanced, critically scientific manner.
Role 3: Communicator.
- M12 Communicate about the field both in writing and orally to patients, colleagues and other parties involved.
- M13 Appropriately communicate a treatment and process plan, taking into account the patient’s care requirements and needs.
- M14 Effectively and reflectively communicate with patients, their family and other health carers in real clinical situations.
- M15 Correctly present one’s own research outcomes in a scientifically responsible report, thesis or article.
Role 4: Professional.
- M16 Multidisciplinary thinking on the basis of knowledge of the different dental subfields.
- M17 Continually correct and improve one’s own professional thinking on the basis of a critically scientific attitude.
- M18 Deal flexibly with permanent changes in the professional field.
- M19 Collaborate with dentists, oral hygienists and/or specialists in a multidisciplinary environment.

September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications
This diploma complies with the regulations set forth in Article 53.1 of the Royal Decree of juli 20th, 2001 on the General Regulations concerning the Protection of the Population, of the Employees and the Environment against the Danger of Ionising Radiation (Law Gazette -Belgium- August 30th, 2001).
Legal Requirements regarding Professional Duties the Diploma complies with
Tandarts.
The holder of this degree complies with the diploma requirements for the use of X-rays producing professional appliances especially devised for the use of dental radiography, in accordance with the rules laid down in article 53.1 of the Royal Decree of juli 20th, 2001 on the General Regulations concerning the Protection of the Population, of the Employees and the Environment against the Danger of Ionising Radiation (Law Gazette -Belgium- August 30th, 2001).
European Directive Professional Qualifications 2005/36/EC
The study programme complies with the requirements concerning admission to the regulated profession of 'Tandarts' as laid down in the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union on the recognition of professional qualifications.
