Competence field 1: Competency in one or more disciplines (knowledge)
- Have insight in social work and social pedagogical concepts.
- Being able to apply initial social work and social pedagogical knowledge and knowledge of social policy theories in order to analyze simple social work processes.
- Have insight in the importance of related (sub)disciplines to analyze problem definitions in social work and social pedagogy.
- Have insight in the history and the nature of social work as a science, as a profession and as a practice, and recognize this historical perspective in current discussions on (simple) social and pedagogical problems.
- Have insight into paradigms that underlie problem definitions in social work and social pedagogy and indicate its limits.
- Identify scientific literature and international research in social work and social pedagogy, judge its scholarly added value and use it.
- Being able to situate and identify contemporary social situations, problem definitions and developments in social work and social pedagogy from a scientific framework.
- Being able to know, warrant and asses the value of several research designs (research models, methods and techniques) in social work and social pedagogy.
- Being able to scientifically indicate educational and pedagogical theories, practice and policy.
- Have knowledge of and being able to apply appropriate qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Have knowledge of and being able to apply appropriate analysis techniques and being able to interpret the results.
- Demonstrate a critical, deontological and ethical professional attitude towards both research and practice of social work.
- Critically reflect on one’s own thinking, learning, judging and actions and adjust these as a result.
- Independently analyze simple problem definitions in social work and social pedagogy.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude towards permanent knowledge development, problem solving and life-long learning in social work and social pedagogy.
- Take a position towards concrete and abstract social work or social pedagogy problems.
- Approach problem definitions in social work and social pedagogy from multiple perspectives (multi perspectivism).
- Communicate in writing on scientific research on the discipline social work and social pedagogy to specialists and non-specialists.
- Communicate orally on the discipline social work and social pedagogy both to specialists and non-specialists.
- Being able to communicate, collaborate and act appropriately in straightforward contexts.
- Participate in the social and cultural debate and have insight in the way in which social work practices strive to social changes that contribute to social justice and a sense of human dignity.
