In addition, there is room for work placement and study-abroad initiatives.
Strengths
- Specialised main subjects: from its inception, our study programme has consisted of two solid research-based main subjects: Speech Therapy and Audiology. In the curriculum, this takes the shape of general and speech therapy/audiology course units, work placements, the Master's dissertation, and internationalisation tracks.
- Study programme with social relevance: our learning outcomes and curriculum are an implementation of our clear vision. Our programme's intended exit level aligns with national and international standards in the speech therapy and audiology sectors, staying up-to-date with recent academic and social trends.
- Committed team of lecturers: our programme features a dedicated team of lecturers from different fields, all of whom integrate their research skills with a devotion to teaching. They invest in offering attractive, interactive and motivating classes continuously.
- Student involvement: our students contribute actively to the quality assurance of our education by participating in various councils and committees. The personal interaction between our students and the study programme management is ingrained in our culture.
- Personal space and diversity: our students are provided with every opportunity to develop. Students needing additional support can rely on student counselling, a care track, ...; students looking for an extra challenge can apply for an honours programme. In addition, we offer a wide range of internationalisation initiatives (international work placement, study-abroad, international guest speakers...).
Challenges
- Interprofessional practice: we want to expand the component of interprofessional practice in our programme: collaboration with physicians, psychologists, dentists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, etc...
- Realistic student expectations: we want to sensitise prospective students about the expectations of an academic study programme. We do so in close consultation with the professional field.
- A wide range of work placement options: we are currently exploring additional work placement opportunities, whereby each phase of the placement process is analysed critically. We also invest in optimal communication with the students
