Bachelor of Science in Economics
The Economics programme is a broad study of how the economy as a whole functions. Whereas Business Economics focuses mostly on the ‘inside’ of the company, the Economics programme studies the ‘outside’: the socio-economic or social environment in which the companies operate.

Final Competences of the Study Programme
Competence area 1: competence in one or more sciences
The academic is familiar with existing scientific knowledge and has the competence of using this, applying it in an integrated way and extending it
Ba 1.1 Knowing economic concepts and theories and placing them within the
context of a changing micro and macroeconomic environment.
Ba 1.2 Using the research methods and techniques that are linked to the
discipline of economics. Knowing the presuppositions of the standard methods
and explanatory models as well as their limitations.
Ba 1.3 Having an understanding of related sciences such as (commercial)
law, human sciences and technology and interpreting their importance and
interaction with economic processes.
Ba 1.4 Having an understanding of the supporting sciences (mathematics,
statistics and information science) and using these techniques for the
analysis of economic problems.
Ba 1.5 Having an understanding of the development, coherence and
dynamics of the relevant sub disciplines of economic analysis Understanding

Competence area 2: scientific competence
An academic is competent in scientific research and design with the goal of
new knowledge creation and problem solving

sub disciplines including the application of suitable methods
Ba 2.2 Identifying and correctly using sources of economic research.
Ba 2.3 Interpreting, reporting on and evaluating the results of existing
and one’s own initial research.

Competence area 3: intellectual competence
An academic is competent in analysis, reasoning, the formation of
judgement, critical reflection and has an attitude of lifelong learning. These
are competences that are learned within the context of a discipline or have
