Unique Selling Points
- Our curriculum is structured gradually, with room for elective modules and specialisation through majors (pure mathematics and applied mathematics). It also contains a broadening focus on various career-oriented domains. Through a variety of teaching and assessment methods, we educate our students in small groups to gradually tackle more complex and abstract problems from both traditional theories and new research areas.
- We offer accessible coaching tailored to the student’s needs and solid study counselling services (e.g. tutoring).
- Our graduates have no trouble finding jobs in a range of sectors: the business world, banking and insurance, IT, research, and education, ... . Our graduates’ analytical skills and capacity for abstraction make for a highly appreciated profile in the labour market.
- Our programme boasts a committed international team of lecturers from various branches of mathematics. Their engagement with our students, the study programme, and the international research community is extensive.
Strengths
- Our well-considered curriculum is designed to develop our students' talents. We guide our students to become independent, critical, and creative thinkers who gradually learn to solve increasingly complex mathematical problems. An international benchmark has revealed that our coaching of the Bachelor’s project and the (outstanding) Master’s dissertations is excellent.
- We have among our exchange partners various prestigious international universities. We supervise student mobility closely.
- The close-knit student group is actively involved in various consultation bodies, student associations, alumni chapters, LinkedIn, etc., and organises a wide range of activities such as course cruising, problem-solving nights, and talks. We make grateful use of our stakeholders’ formal and informal feedback to improve our programme.
- Our international team of lecturers uses various teaching methods, covering the traditional blackboard method to build mathematical reasoning as well as state-of-the-art development and simulation software.
Challenges
- We will improve the communication on our learning outcomes (course- as well as programme-specific) vis-à-vis all of our stakeholders.
- We invest more in presentation, computer and collaborative skills during class in a modern teaching environment.
- We will involve the (international) professional field and our alumni even more in work placements, case studies, the Master’s dissertation, and as guest speakers.
This study programme is accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (Dutch: NVAO). Accreditation was extended following the positive outcome of the institutional review in 2022.
