Master of Science in Banking and Finance
The financial sector needs economists with a thorough micro- and macrofinancial training, and a mastery of data science and quantitative risk management techniques for modern financial services companies. The goal of this programme is to deliver experts who are able to formulate and implement innovative solutions to tackle today’s relevant banking, asset management and risk management challenges in financial services firms.

Competence field 1: Competency in one or more scientific disciplines
- Demonstrate advanced insight in the state-of-the art knowledge in the fields of financial markets, banking, financial risk management and asset management.
- Analyze and solve problem-based return/risk trade-offs in banking using relevant quantitative methods.
- Understand and apply appropriate risk and portfolio management techniques and models.
- Understand and apply recent theoretical and empirical models of financial markets.
- Integrate the related fields of monetary economics and corporate finance in the analysis of banking and finance problems.
- Identify and adapt sophisticated quantitative and econometric techniques to analyze complex financial problems.
- Use advanced software (such as MatLab, Eviews) and subject-specific databases (such as Datastream, Bankscope) to solve banking and finance problems.
- Understand the dynamics and interconnectedness of financial issues and provide sound policy advice to professionals and policymakers.
- Define financial research questions based on up to date academic and professional literature.
- Set up a research framework autonomously and select the appropriate quantitative research method given data characteristics and theoretical and empirical constraints.
- Select and manipulate appropriate data to solve real-world financial problems.
- Develop financial models and applications by using advanced statistical software.
- Analyze and solve financial problems with a high degree of autonomy based on up-to-date scientific knowledge.
