What

The EGEI programme meets an increasing demand for graduates who have the skills to analyse issues of globalisation and economic integration competently, and make relevant policy or strategic recommendations in the public and private sectors. Global events such as the Great Recession , trade wars, Brexit, … have taught us to rethink current processes of integration, and to support and improve the mechanisms of globalisation. This programme not only offers training in economics but also a solid knowledge of the international law that regulates global interactions, the theory and practice of international business, and other key economic agents acting in the global economy. EGEI encourages you to think independently, to develop an entrepreneurial spirit and to be critical. In addition, the programme draws attention to the broader social consequences of economic policies, such as their effects on migration, inequality and the environment. You will get a full-immersive study experience in a truly global environment as you will have to interact with people with different cultures and backgrounds, and live in different countries during the two-year programme. EGEI is jointly offered by a consortium of eight institutions in Bari (Italy), Ghent and Brussels (Belgium), Santander (Spain), Lille (France), Tartu (Estonia), Xiamen (China), and Valparaiso (Chile). You will take classes in at least three different countries during the four terms.

For whom

The admission requirements vary. Depending on your prior education, you are either able to enrol directly, or there are additional requirements.

Structure

The EGEI-programme comprises four terms. The first term takes place in France or China and offers a strong background in economic theory and quantitative methods as well as solid knowledge of international law and business. During the second term(in Belgium), you will deepen your knowledge ofthe economics of globalisation and European Integration. You will also start working on your Master’s dissertation. During the third term, you will choose as your specialisation one of the four specialist tracks available. The location depends on your choice of specialisation: International Economic Policy in Tartu (Estonia), Economic and Financial Issues in the EU in Santander (Spain), Economics and Business of Globalisation in Bari (Italy) or Globalisation and Emerging Market Economies in Valparaiso (Chile). The last term is devoted to a work placement (at international organisations, NGOs, international business corporations), and your Master’s dissertation.

An innovative teaching approach is used, which brings together advanced academic competencies with more practical knowledge and skills: e.g. lectures and seminars with EU officials, visits to EU institutions and other Brussels-based bodies. We also adopt interactive modes of instruction: Oxford-style debates, simulations, role playing games, discussion groups and pitch presentations.

Labour Market

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will earn the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Economics of Globalisation and European Integration. Our alumni are highly successful, both in the academic world as well as in senior positions at global businesses, government or international organisations, including the EU.
