Master of Science in Textile Engineering

Kwaliteitszorg in eigen regie

People who dare to think about the challenges of tomorrow, that is what we aim for. That is why education at our university is firmly anchored in six major objectives.

  1. Think broadly. Thinking as broadly as possible and offering the opportunity to question oneself. Not only Dare to Think, but also dare to change the way of thinking.
  2. Keep researching. Research is the foundation of our education. Ghent University keeps linking its way of educating to the dynamics of science.
  3. Support Talent. Everyone starts with equal opportunities. Every students gets the opportunity to develop their talents, regardless of gender, cultural or social background.
  4. Build with us. Students, staff, the government and the corporate world all get the chance to contribute to the contents and form of our high quality education. Ghent University is known for its particularly active students in student participation, of which we are very proud.
  5. Push boundaries. We want to prepare our students internationally and interculturally. We give them the opportunity to gain experience across borders. We also open our doors for students from all over the world and welcome teachers and academic staff from abroad.
  6. Choose quality. Constant quality assurance and improvement is an integral part of our culture and we communicate about it openly. We are proud of the level of our university.

Ghent University sees the quality of education as an internal self-evaluation process, in which faculties and programs compare the goals they have set themselves to the achieved results and adjust the policy accordingly. The portfolios constitute an important link in this process. The achieved results are based on quantitative and qualitative information from relevant stakeholders (students, teachers, professional field, international experts, alumni, etc.).The ‘peer learning visits’, the yearly quality meeting and the Education Quality Office (‘OKB’) make sure the PDCA cycle is closed at various policy levels and help to keep the improvement policy sharp.

A detailed description of how Ghent University is constantly paying attention to quality assurance and quality culture can be found in the Ghent University Conduct of Educational Quality Assurance (ERGO).

Quality of this study programme

This quality assurance system provides information on the assets, the strengths and the points for improvement for every study programme. A summary for this study programme can be found below:

De troeven van de opleiding

  1. Top quality education: The European Textile Engeneering Advanced master (E-TEAM) is the joint master programme of AUTEX, the world network of textile universities. By putting together our best professors we can offer top quality education in textile engineering.
  2. Internationalisation: E-TEAM is based on a unique level of mobility of students and lecturers. All students spend 3 or 4 semesters at different AUTEX members. Every week an experienced AUTEX professor teaches in his or her field of expertise.
  3. Advanced knowledge: E-TEAM offers 3 thematic semesters (textile materials, textile processes and textile applications). Elective courses and a master thesis (4th semester, at one of the AUTEX member universities) offer students the chance to expand upon personal interests or to take advantage of specific expertise of the hosting universities. Students get to know the research and facilities of the hosting universities.
  4. Cross-cultural experience: E-TEAM targets developing talents of students as well as lecturers, both local and international. The intensive mobility level contributes to the development of personal skills such as social interaction, entrepreneurial behaviour, language and networking.
  5. Stakeholder involvement: E-TEAM addresses all stakeholders, from students to industry and their networks, from local to international. Industry participation includes attending lectures, providing company visits, real life cases and internships. Local stakeholders (students, staff and industry) offer specific expertise and culture. We want students to build an international network of academia, industry and other students.

Kwaliteitszorg van de opleiding: sterke punten

  1. Focus on quality: the vision of the European Textile Engeneering Advanced master (E-TEAM) is to offer the best academic education in textile engineering to the best students in an international context through AUTEX . The international programme board involves all stakeholders, including industry and students. The overall coordinator supported by local coordinators follows up smooth deployment of the semesters.
  2. Interaction: we ensure proper guidance and intensive interaction among students. We want our students to not only acquire knowledge, but also to develop as responsible professionals and citizens.
  3. Top teaching team: we select experienced and enthusiast lecturers. They use traditional lecturing methods as well as active methods such as blended learning, case studies, projects, practical work and so on.
  4. Accreditation: the programme achieved accreditation in several European countries and this is still expanding.
  5. Industry involvement ensures employability of our graduates.

Kwaliteitszorg van de opleiding: werkpunten

  1. Background of students: the background of incoming students is quite diverse in many aspects. Therefore we want to expand our e-learning materials for textile introduction, self-evaluation and self-remediation, especially for students from industry.
  2. Interaction with industry: although the interaction with industry is growing, we want to involve them more intensively in all aspects of teaching.
  3. Accreditation: E-TEAM has acquired accreditation in several European countries. We aim at European accreditation in order to officialise recognition of the degree of Master in Engineering in all participating countries.
