- Have advanced understanding of physical, chemical, and ecological processes in natural and disturbed ecosystems and apply this knowledge to problem solving and decision-making)
- Evaluate causes, consequences and solutions of environmental problems from multiple perspectives (scientifically, technologically, socially, legally, economically)
- Identify and quantify environmental pollution at multiple temporal and spatial scales (from local to global)
- Apply concepts of environmental sustainability, clean technology, the circular economy and resource recovery
- Collect, critically evaluate and quantitatively analyze environmental information and data to answer relevant research questions about and to recommend solutions for environmental problems
- Formulate scientifically and technologically up-to-date approaches to diagnose and solve environmental problems in a professional setting
- Select the most appropriate measures or technologies to prevent, remediate, or control environmental problems
- Consider uncertainty, ambiguity and risk when formulating solutions for environmental problems
- Communicate clearly, scientifically correctly, and with scientific integrity in scientific and non-scientific contexts about environmental problems and solutions
- Demonstrate an open, creative and critical attitude when reflecting about environmental issues and while solving them
- Collaborate open-mindedly and respectfully with professionals in a multi-disciplinary setting in the academic, governmental, or private (profit and non-profit) sectors
- Have cutting-edge scientific knowledge and technological skills in one of the following specialization domains of environmental science and technology (depending on the chosen major): assessment and management of chemicals, resource recovery technology, environmental health and technology for developing economies, urban environmental management, or environmental health and technology for marine systems
