Master of Science in Health Education and Health Promotion

As the primary prevention of chronic diseases becomes ever more important, there is a concomitant and growing need for experts in health promotion. The environmental effect on our health as well as the pressure of environmental factors on our heath behaviour merits attention. The Master in Health Promotion trains you in the systematic and methodical development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion programmes.

Learning outcomes

Apply specialised scientific knowledge in health promotion and related sciences for the further development of health-promoting policies and concrete interventions.

Autonomously work out a scientific question for the study of present-day problems related to health behaviour and environmental conditions.

Independently execute and critically assess appropriate methods and analysis techniques of quantitative and qualitative research for research within the health promotion domain.

Develop, plan, execute and assess health-promoting interventions in an ethical and normatively responsible manner, taking into account the broader social (policy) context in which the same is to be implemented.

Apply key concepts and basic concepts of health promotion and related disciplines in practice.

Apply theories on behavioural changes and changes in environmental conditions in practice.

Creatively intervene, focused on behavioural changes and conservation, systematically develop, execute and assess in collaboration with other professionals from various sectors and representatives of target groups.

Independently analyse the dynamics and processes of complex health behaviour from various perspectives and taking into account societal visions, ethical attitudes and international developments.

Possess insight into the impact of local, national and international policies on health, safety and health promotion.

Analyse new and complex problems in health promotion from theoretical frameworks of health promotion and supporting and related sciences.

Provide a creative contribution to the debate on the health promoting and preventive aspects of social health-related problems.

Write an implementation plan in collaboration with other professionals from various sectors and representatives of target groups.

Be scientifically curious and apply lifelong learning for the optimisation of health-promoting interventions.

Test new knowledge and insights using established explanatory models of health behaviour.
