Bachelor of Laws in Laws
A student of law is not predestined to becoming a lawyer, a magistrate or a notary public. Legal experts also find employment in business world, in government services or in politics. Our programme covers various branches of the law and offers a variety of legal issues and case studies.

- A basic scientific knowledge of the structures, the system, the fundamentals and the core rules of the internal legal order.
- A basic scientific knowledge of the structures, the system, the fundamentals and the core rules of the international legal order.
- A basic scientific knowledge of the structures, the system, the fundamentals and the core rules of the European legal order.
- Knowledge and understanding of the historical backgrounds of the law.
- Knowledge and understanding of the cultural and philosophical foundations of the law.
- Having a clear understanding of the meaning of the economic, sociological, socio-psychological and political factors that influence, shape and underpin law.
- Command of the methods that are characteristic for legal science and practice.
- Command of the specific legal terms in Dutch, French, and – if feasible in – English.
- Having knowledge and insight into the mutual relation between law and society, varying in time and space.
- Having knowledge and insight into the relevance of law with regard to the concept of and issues on sustainable development.
- The competence to research Dutch, French, and English legal texts and to apply their content to analyze legal questions in a scientifically sound manner.
- Ability to methodically interpret and apply legal rules.
- Ability to develop and adequately substantiate a legal proposition or strategy.
- Applying methods and techniques of legal scientific research, including the concept of academic integrity.
- Ability to detect and characterize relevant legal facts and to formulate adequate legal questions regarding cases.
- Correctly assessing the value of legal sources and to apply these sources in a scientifically sound manner.
- Assessing a legal proposition or strategy based on a well-founded argumentation.
- Awareness of the evolving nature and the social-cultural embedment of the law.
- Ability to reflect critically on his/her own learning and thought process and the willingness to adjust it.
- Reflecting critically on legal rules.
- Having an attitude of self-study and lifelong learning.
- Being aware of one’s own national and cultural frame of reference when reflecting on legal issues.
- Report in writing about the scientific analysis and synthesis of legal issues, also to non-lawyers.
- Orally presenting the scientific analysis and synthesis of legal issues, also to non-lawyers
- Ability to work – individually or in team – on the scientific analysis and synthesis of legal issues, and this with a sense of responsibility and deontology.
- Substantiating thoroughly a legal position and the ability to adequately deal with criticism.
- Having consciousness of the social role and responsibility of a lawyer.
