Competence field 1: Competency in one or more scientific disciplines
- Have a profound knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences, and basic engineering sciences, and apply this knowledge in a creative, critical, and target-oriented manner, also in an abstract context
- Be able to model, schematize and abstract processes and systems.

- Possess the scientific knowledge, insight, and skills to analyze, model analytically and numerically, specify, design, control, and test experimentally, systems that are a direct application of the fundaments of physics.
- Have a thorough understanding of the basis of quantum mechanics and the composition of matter.
- Have a thorough understanding of solid state physics, semiconductors, and their applications.
- Have a clear insight in fields (electric, magnetic) and wave phenomena (electromagnetic, acoustic, optic) and the competence to creatively apply it in systems.
- Have a thorough understanding of thermodynamics, statistical physics, the states of matter, phase transitions and their applications.
