Competence field 1: Competence in one or more scientific disciplines
- Apply basic concepts, methods and techniques of the computer science practice (from the user and management level of computer systems and computer networks up to software design and programming).
- Use current software development techniques, skills, and tools for the design and implementation of small and large scale software projects.
- Use and implement commonly used algorithms and data structures and understand the concept of computational complexity.
- Have an understanding of computer and network architecture, the underlying hardware infrastructure and sustaining electronic principles.
- Apply mathematical techniques and methods related to the field of computer science.
- Have a good understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of computer science.
- Identify the interrelationships between various sub-domains of computer science, and understand how they affect each other.
- Use computational technology in modelling and problem solving.
- Consult and evaluate information from technical and scientific computer science literature in a goal-oriented way.
- Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking in the context of computer science.
- Select appropriate tools to accomplish computational or data management tasks.
- Justify own choices and decisions made in building computer-based solutions.
- Analyze and assess computer-based solutions.
- Make effective use of acquired competencies outside of their initial scope.
- Acquaint one-self with new methods and technologies.
- Make a clear distinction between theory and practice and between formal and informal problem specification.
- Show evidence of punctuality, sense of detail, order and carefulness.
- Show evidence of persistence.
- Reason logically at various levels of abstraction.
- Use spoken, written and electronic media to communicate effectively with co-workers and peers while correctly applying widespread terminology and (graphical) standards.
- Communicate to a general audience in an informal setting.
- Work as a team to solve problems and meet project goals and deadlines.
- Take notice of the ethical and societal aspects of informatics.
